May 1, 2019 Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners Regular Meeting

The Agenda meeting of the Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners took place at the Colonia Firehouse on May 1, 7:30 pm. The meeting was called to order by Board President Ray Hughes followed by a moment of silence for departed members.

Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Home News Tribune and the Asbury Park Press and at Town Hall.

Commissioners present: Joe Fugaro Bill Stellmach, Ed Sheehan, Bill Higgins, Ray Hughes

Fire Prevention

Ed Timmes and Bill Schleck met with a representative from Enforcer about new program. The need to get enough guys trained and sufficient on the program. Fire Prevention is putting together a Knox box system. Stickers will be made up with colors to correspond with front, middle and back doors indicating where the Knox box is. The stickers will be reflective.

Chief (Frank Polozzi)

Three possible recruits going through the investigation process.

Chief is pulling members in to talk to with low percentages.

Academy dills are going well so far this year.

Tower drill will be done in May.

They are still looking into the sound system for the meeting room.

Commissioner Stellmach wants to make sure very guy on the day drill knows how to get key out of Knox box.

It was suggested that Ed Timmes make a master sheet for all firefighters to have a code for the Knox box.

Commissioner Stellmach was the old cabinets emptied and thrown out in the garbage Motion was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by Commissioner Stellmach to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion passed.

Building and Grounds, Commissioner Higgins

Discussed at agenda meeting. Make sure air is off and door is shut for radio room at night.

The SQAD needs to be power washed between the building and the fence specifically the north side.

The mechanical room at the SQAD is not to be used as a storage room.

A motion was made and seconded by Commissioner Higgins and Commissioner Hughes to hire and engineer to look at the problem with the storm drain and the sidewalk.

Pinnacle double billed us on a repair done to the radios.

Commissioner Stellmach told the representative for the town that Colonia is in for the radios. The Commissioners have the funding.

Trucks and Equipment, Commissioner Sheehan

Commissioner Stellmach, Commissioner Fugaro and two firefighters will be going to Florida for the new truck.

Dumpster at SQAD needs to be moved to other side of the building.

Need to get smaller recycle cans for the hall.

Commissioner Fugaro gave his email address for Oprah requests to John Mitch.

Fire fighter Giardina gave updates on the grants.

Commissioner will be providing funding for the Ohio trip. The cost will be cheaper since there are many kids attending from other departments.

A motion was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by Commissioner Higgins to sponsor explorers going to Ohio. Motion passed.

Explorers need e-dispatch on their phones. They are not allowed to use it in school.

Commissioners would like Ricky to look at how many time Colonia goes to Avenel and they don’t’ need to. Many times they get turned back. Avenel doesn’t need to come to Colonia at night time.

A motion was made by Commissioner Stellmach and seconded by Commissioner Higgins to adjourn meeting at 8:05 pm. Motion passed.
