July 10, 2019 Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners Regular Meeting
The Regular meeting of the Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners took place at the Colonia Firehouse on July 10, 7:40 pm. The meeting was called to order by Board President Ray Hughes followed by a moment of silence for departed members.
Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Home News Tribune and the Asbury Park Press and at Town Hall.
Commissioners present: Joe Fugaro Bill Stellmach, Ed Sheehan, Bill Higgins, and Ray Hughes
Chief’s Report
Rickey’s wife was injured. She needs surgery and it will be a 6 – 9 month recovery. Ricky has stepped down as chief and Vinny will be filling in.
Ricky will be putting in for a 6 month leave of absence.
Acting Chief Pereira
The officers are adjusting in the office accordingly. Training needs to be done before anyone can move up.
State is looking into qualifications of officer’s.
The computer in the Chief’s car is not working.
Zyrtec is ready to get sworn in. Will need to have a special meeting so he can get into the academy.
The Chief would like to send some guys again this year to the Fire Expo. It is October 8 -12. It is $439.00 pp for a three day pass for classes. Airfare and hotel is separate. A motion was made and seconded to pay for up to 4 guys to attend the Fire Expo.
Fire Prevention
Billy Schleck passed out the fire prevention reports to the Commissioners.
Billy met with the acting Chief and will sit down with the officers.
Key tags for the Knox boxes are ordered. Billy needs to talk to Commissioner Hughes about the stickers.
Billy left a message with a representative for the ESP training.
Justin Hallaway will start helping in the fire prevention department.
Treasurer’s Report
See attached.
A bill list is on file in the Commissioner’s office.
A motion was made by Commissioner Higgins and seconded by Commissioner Sheehan to accept the Treasurer’s report. Motion passed.
Buildings and Grounds, Commissioner Higgins
The floor and the lighting in the bay is completed. Wunder needs to put in an electrical outlet in the bay.
Commissioner Higgins received 2 bids for the waxing of the floors. Commissioner Higgins read the bid specs and the Commissioner’s made a motion and voted on going with Menlo Maintenance. Commissioner Sheehan made the motion and Commissioner Stellmach seconded the motion.

Hose is on order. Acting Chief Pereira needs to look at wish list and see if it needs to be adjusted.
Old Business
Generator is order. Looking at installation. Commissioner Stellmach has a proposal from Clean Air to move the system.
New Business
Acting Chief Pereira has been getting questions about the Valic accounts.
Commissioner Hughes said that LOSAP is 5 years forward. To receive LOSAP you have to be vested after five years of continuous service and meet the point criteria. If they left the Company before they were vested then their account was closed and they were not entitled to the money. Any funds contributed go back to the fire district.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Higgins and seconded by Commissioner Sheehan. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
