May 7, 2014 Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners Regular Meeting
The regular meeting of the Colonia Board of Fire commissioners took place at the Colonia Firehouse on May 7, 2014 at 7:45pm. The meeting was called to order by Board President Ray Hughes followed by a moment of silence for departed members.


Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Home News Tribune and the Asbury Park
Press and at Town Hall.

Chiefs Report


12-2 in Avenel doing stand by. Percentages are downstairs.
May 18 we are doing a drill for the township. The county will be supplying a stand by crew for us. EMS is also supposed to be attending the drill as well.
A discussion took place between the Commissioners and Chief Stellmach on programming the radios. Will be calling Kevin Wertz to see if he can program our radios.

FA-12 has to go back to the township for low oil.
Three radios need to be changed. Will use a place in Clark. FA 17 and FA 12 will be more involved because of moving them from the back to the front.
Silent Companion needs to come to the SQAD to look at their alarm system and change the batteries.

Back steps were done. Roof was patched. Floors were waxed. Wood on side of the building needs to be removed.

 President's office was painted.

Commissioner Higgins will be calling Kevin Wertz to see if he can program the radios for voice activated radios.
Our radio system is up and running. The guys need to be trained on it. Need a desk and table for the radio room.

Old Business


Commissioner Souza recommended that we get prices for new computers. Best Buy was too expensive.

A motion was made by Commissioner Higgins, Jr. and seconded by Commissioner Sheehan to go with Precision for their new computers. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.
Commissioner Hughes gave an update that the new engine should be ready for
August 1 if everything stays on target.
Commissioners agreed that they will look at the security system for adding camera at the dead spots and upgrade them to color cameras as well. Cameras need to be facing building and cameras by the back stairs.
A motion was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Jr. to go ahead with adding to security system. Motion passed by unanimous vote.
Commissioner Sheehan suggested we look at getting more prices for the treading on the stairs.
George Reilly asked that commissioners look into getting rid of the generator that is in the shed at the first aid squad. Commissioner Souza will call Carl Gurney about getting the SQAD a new generator.
Motion to adjourn meeting was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by
Commissioner Higgins at 8:25 pm. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.
