NOVEMBER 6TH, 2013 COLONIA BOARD OF FIRE COMMISSIONERS REGULAR MEETING

November 6th, 2013 Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners Regular Meeting 

The regular meeting of the Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners took place at the
Colonia Firehouse on November 6, 2013 at 7:45 pm. The meeting was called to order by Board President Ray Hughes followed by a moment of silence for departed members.


Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Home News Tribune and the Asbury Park
Press and at Town Hall.


Commissioners present: Ray Hughes, Jim Souza, Ed Sheehan, Bill Higgins, Sr., and
BillHiggins, Jr.


Also Present: L. Higgins, (First Aid) G. Reilly (First Aid) Chief Mackey, Firefighter Lorenzen, Firefighter Caposiena, Firefighter, Giardina


Chief Mackey introduced two new firefighters: Cory Oberberger and David Brow

Chief's Report, M. Mackey
Had a meeting last night and went over percentages. Will now be having a meeting
with Commissioner Souza. There are a lot of members in bad standing.


Commissioner Sheehan advised Chief Mackey that the pickup and Excursion should
not be used all the time. Make sure they are cleaned out after each use.


Building and Grounds, Commissioner Higgins, Sr.
The steps in the back are breaking up and Firefighter Stellmach has a guy that will break it up for $400.00. Would like to look into replacing the steps with metal stairs.


A motion was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Jr. to break up the stairs. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

Alarms and Radios, Commissioner Higgins, Jr.
Started gutting out radio room. We met with the tile guy and he gave us a price of
$700.00. We buy the tile and he supplies everything else. It willcost $1,500.00 to do
the backroom and it is the same thing. We buy the tiles and he does everything else.
Watson Furniture is sending an email to Stephanie. Will build her stuff into the furniture.


Precession gave us a price of $16,080.22 to getting new computers and system.
A suggestion was made to look into getting another price to make sure what Time is
giving us is a good price.
A unanimous vote was made to do Diamond plate and paint the top in the radio room.


Personnel, Commissioner Souza, Jr.
I got some numbers from the Chief in regards to percentages for November.


Trucks and Equipment, Commissioner Sheehan
Pumper was ordered. Also looking into a Chief's truck.


The deal is almost done for the ambulance rig.


Looking into a van for fire prevention. They would like the vehicle to have seats and a
table to do interviews. They would also like to have some tools on it. Might also like to
look into a smaller trailer.


Purchasing, Commissioner Hughes, Jr.
Firefighter Pereira asked for more pass devices. Need to wait until end of this month.
He would like 15 more.


Old Business
The sign is ordered and in production. They will send us an e: mail when it is done.


In the beginning of January will be the first trip to Florida for the engine.


Elections are this Sunday. Commissioners need to review outcome of elections before
they are sworn in in January.


Commissioner Souza started putting together numbers for the 2014 budget. All
commissioners need to look at budget so we can approve it next month.


The Colonia Boy Scouts would like to use the hall on January 14, 2014 or their Honor
Dinner. Will get back to them after availability is checked.


Firefighter Giardina gave an update on grants.


Motion to adjourn meeting was made by Commissioner Higgins, Sr. and seconded by
Commissioner Higgins, Jr. at 8:30. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.
