October 2nd, 2013 Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners Regular Meeting

The agenda meeting of the Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners took place at the Colonia Firehouse on October 2, 1013 at 7:42 pm. The meeting was called to order by Board member BillHiggins, Sr. followed by a moment of silence for departed members.

Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Home News Tribune and the Asbury Park Press and at Town Hall.  

Commissioners present: Jim Souza, Ed Sheehan, BillHiggins, Sr. and BillHiggins, Jr. Ray Hughes was out of town.
Also Present: Firefighter Chief Mackey, George Reilly (First Aid)

Chief's Report, M. Mackey .

Couple of guys still need to make up drills. Next month the Commissioners will have the percentages for the end of the year.

Treasurer's Report, Commissioner Souza, Jr.

A motion to accept treasurer's report was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by
Commissioner Higgins, Sr. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

Buildings and Grounds, Commissioner Higgins, Sr.

Once the radio room is done we need to look into doing work on the back room. We need to clean the

windows outside the conference room. We can use the ladder truck to get up there and clean them.

Water and Hydrants, Commissioner Higgins, Jr.
Tonight was the Water Com meeting at the Avenel Firehouse. We will wait and see what they have to say.

Alarms and Radios, commissionHeriggins, Jr.
We met with Wunder Electric the other day. We will take everything out of the radio room and put the stuff in the back room and work out of there until room is done.

Opened up the two bids they received for the work on the radio room.

Salduitti- Overall conversion of radio room. $4,650.00

Mizak -Overall conversion of radio room. $3,000.00

They will bring them both in to go over the details of their bids.

Andrew Mazzarella gave us a book to order the furniture from. It is much cheaper than the guy we were dealing with.

Personnel, Commissioner Souza, Jr.
The Chief brought guys in and spoke to them regarding their percentages and drills.

Trucks and Equipment, Commissioner Sheehan
Pricing a new Chief's car. Looked at an ambulance tonight. Need to get together with first aid to discuss it.
Will try and put lights on 12-34 like we did on 12-31 and 12-32. Commissioner Sheehan would like approval to do that.
A motion was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Sr. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

Old Business
Commissioners spoke to vendors about purchasing vehicles. Need to call SAN to confirm if we find equipment we want without going through bid process.
Regarding the outside sign. Spoke to the purchasing agent and she put the specs together. It should be on website then when people look at the website they will know to put in a bid for it.

New Business
Commissioner Higgins would like to purchase a new radio for each of the fire commissioners and tie it into the cost of the radio room. It is something to think about and we will revisit it as we get closer to working on the radio room.

EMS, George Reilly
The amount of money that is out there that we should be collecting is $56,000.00.Once Medicare starts to come in we will be doing better.
There is a fuel leak on the rig. Will call So. Plainfield tomorrow to have them look at it.
We have crews 24/7.
Motion to adjourn meeting was made by Commissioner Higgins, Sr. and seconded by Commissioner Sheehan at 8:15 pm. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.
