March 6, 2013 Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners Regular Meeting

The regular meeting of the Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners took place at the Colonia Firehouse on March 6, 2012 at 7:50 pm. The meeting was called to order by Board President Ray Hughes followed by a moment of silence for departed members.

Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Home News Tribune and the Asbury Park Press and at Town Hall.

Commissioners present: Ray Hughes, Ed Sheehan, Bill Higgins, Sr., Bill Higgins, Jr. and Jim Souza

Also Present: Chief Mackey, Firefighter Caposiena, Firefighter Giardina, G. Reilly (First Aid), L. Higgins, (First Aid), Firefighter Komorowski

Reorganization

Motion to stay the same for everything including all vendors was made by Commissioner Higgins, Jr. and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Sr. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

A motion to look into changing newspapers to advertise in for next year was made by Commissioner Souza and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Sr. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

Communication and Bills, Commissioner Sheehan

Nothing

EMS, Laura Higgins

Thanked those who were at the school bus accident. Matt Mizak was excellent at accident. Matt should really be recognized for his efforts.

SQAD, George Reilly

They are still waiting for electrician. Landlines are working for inside phones. CAD system still about six months from working.

Chief’s Report, M. Mackey

Chief went over items that he would like. Will submit an itemized list with prices.

After this month will start pulling gear from guys not making calls.

Discussed Facebook policy. The Board and Company should have the same policy. Mike will look on the internet for social media and will amended it accordingly and have Braslow look at it.

Treasurer’s Report, Commissioner Souza, Jr.

A motion to accept treasurer’s report was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Jr. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

Building and Grounds, Commissioner Higgins, Sr.

Meting room is all done.

Water and Hydrants, Commissioner Higgins, Jr.

Progress

Insurance, Commissioner Hughes

Still having an issue with the truck. Did not sent paperwork in for repairs.

Alarms and Radios, Commissioner Higgins, Jr.

Didn’t get radio yet from County for South Plainfield. Will be calling Mike about it tomorrow.

A motion was made by Commissioner Hughes and seconded by Commissioner Sheehan to buy the radio so there is not reason to have to wait until next month. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

Will be calling Stephanie one more time to come down here and give a quote on the radio room.

Personnel, Commissioner Souza

Mike mentioned that gear will be taken away starting this month if the guys don’t make their percentages.

Trucks and Equipment, Commissioner Sheehan

12-21 needs a maintenance check done on it.

FA-12 had $4,200.00 worth of work done on it.

Purchasing, Commissioner Hughes

Throw bags for the hoses will be ordered. Will discuss more expensive items once he gets the list from the Chief.

Old Business

Commissioner Souza made a motion to get the whole building done with regards to the sophists and Commissioner Sheehan seconded the motion. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

New Business

Discussed big ticket budget items that need to be done for this year. Radio room, $300,000, possibly a new ambulance, and a new engine.

Floor

Firefighter Giardina gave an update on the grants.

Motion to adjourn meeting was made by Commissioner Higgins, Sr. and seconded by Commissioner Sheehan at 9:11 pm. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.
