May 1, 2013 Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners Regular Meeting

The regular meeting of the Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners took place at the Colonia Firehouse on May 1, 2012 at 8:15 pm. The meeting was called to order by Board President Ray Hughes followed by a moment of silence for departed members.

Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Home News Tribune and the Asbury Park Press and at Town Hall.

Commissioners present: Ray Hughes, Bill Higgins, Sr., Bill Higgins, Jr., Jim Souza Eddie Sheehan (absent)

Also Present: Chief Mackey, Firefighter Giardina, G. Reilly (First Aid), L. Higgins, (First Aid), E. Giardina (First Aid), Firefighter J. Lorenzen

None

EMS

Wunder Electric still is working at SQAD.

George and Laura went to Trenton on Monday and passed the State Inspection.

Elaine Giardina gave the weekend coverage check for the month of April.

Need to reach out to legal on how to dissolve Colonia EMS name. Payroll account will have to be closed and reopened with new name. Everything has to be under same name.

(Commissioner Souza suggested they call Ed Mullen and Braslow with payroll and legal questions.

EMS will be looking to hire someone from Carteret and Ryan Dougherty.

Chief’s Report

No percentages since today is the first of the month.

Talked to guys who are low on drills.

Went over items on Chief’s “wish list”.

FDIC trip was excellent. Next time would like to go out on a Tuesday and come home on Saturday and would not stay by airport.

Treasurer’s Report, Commissioner Souza, Jr.

A motion to accept treasurer’s report was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Sr. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

Buildings and Grounds, Commissioner Higgins, Sr.

Sophists are all done.

People are having problem with the latch on the front door. Calling Harry to get it fixed.

Painter coming down to do touch ups.

The floor guy is going to come in every 3 – 4 months to do maintenance of floors. He suggested we replace the bottoms of the chairs with rubber protectors. That is what is scratching the floors.

Pinnacle was here to reprogram radios for S. Plainfield.

Waiting on furniture people to come and look at radio room.

Wunder Electric came to look at radio room and will give us a price.

Personnel, Commissioner Souza, Jr.

Made decision on issues we brought up. Some are already taken care of. First Aid matter is resolved.

Trucks and Equipment

                         

Radiator on 12-21 is done.

Would like permission to start cleaning vehicles.

Air Horn on 12-1 not working.

Purchasing, Commissioner Hughes

Camera has come in already. Saved $2,500.00 on it.

Guys will get new helmets and boots based on their percentages and what they do. Commissioners will look at list before they are distributed.

Old Business

We have to make sure we have enough guys here to cover out district before we go out to other areas.

Ambulances – Decided to fix FA-12.

New Business

The Town Business Administrator wanted to know when we buy our new ambulance would we sell our old ambulance to the township. They want to use it as a transport for prisoners.

Grant Update was given by Firefighter Giardina.

Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Sheehan and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Sr. at 8:52. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.
