April 3, 2013 Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners Regular Meeting

The regular meeting of the Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners took place at the Colonia Firehouse on April 3, 2012 at 7:47 pm. The meeting was called to order by Board President Ray Hughes followed by a moment of silence for departed members.

Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Home News Tribune and the Asbury Park Press and at Town Hall.

Commissioners present: Ray Hughes, Bill Higgins, Sr., Bill Higgins, Jr., Jim Souza, Eddie Sheehan (absent)

Also Present: Chief Mackey, Firefighter Giardina, G. Reilly (First Aid), L. Higgins, (First Aid), E. Giardina (First Aid), Firefighter Lorenzen, Firefighter Komorowski

Laura was asked by paramedics were they could get another radio. Billy told her to they should reach out to Pat Kenney.

Jeff Lorenzen

Would like to take the money that the township gives them and use it for weekend coverage and do it on a month to month basis.

A lengthy discussion was held between SQAD and Commissioners on hiring people and the weekend coverage. Commissioners said they were able to take the money and use it for coverage.

Commissioner Souza went over what took place at the meting he and the other commissioners had with Joe Nysky and Brian Small. They are not taking the SQAD over they are going to oversee it and assume financial responsibility.

Chief’s Report, M. Mackey

Mike gave a list of items that he and the officers would like.

Will announce tomorrow and Company meeting that he is going to start pulling gear.

May 11, 2013 they are going to have a drill.

Special Ops. Team has 17 guys still on team. They haven’t been trained in quite some time. He is looking for approval from Commissioners to set up trench training at a cost of $4,500.00. They still need to do a confined space and collapsed building drill as well. They shouldn’t be as expensive.

The Fire Department will be doing two stand bys at Avenel on April 13 and April 20.

Fire Prevention

Scheck’s hours were changed now working study afternoons. He left a report regarding pyrotechnics.

Greiner Towers getting all new kitchens so there will be dumpsters in the fire zones. They should be there for about three weeks.

Treasurer’s Report, Commissioner Souza

Motion to accept treasurers report was made by Commissioner Higgins, Jr. and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Sr. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

Buildings and Grounds, Commissioner Higgins, Sr.

Sophists should be done either this or next week.

Put new lock on bathroom door.

I will be getting a hold of the guy who waxes the floors. The floors should be done once or twice a month.

Progress

Insurance, Commissioner Hughes

Workers compensation is due under same company. They did not drop us.

Alarms and Radios, Commissioner Higgins, Jr.

We tabled buying new radio for So. Plainfield since they are on our frequency.

I am waiting for the plan back from Stephanie on the radio room.

Trucks and Equipment, (Commissioner Sheehan absent)

Mitch is doing all the batteries.

Eddie will set up maintenance program with the vehicles.

One of the guys accidentally put gas in instead of diesel. We should look into getting a different nozzle. One should only go into gas and one into diesel.

Purchasing, Commissioner Hughes

Hoses for meters are purchased. Handcart is in for rescue truck.

Old Business

A motion was made by Commissioner Higgins, Jr. and seconded by Commissioner Souza to approve trench training for the Special Ops. Team. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

A motion was made by Commissioner Higgins, Jr. and seconded by Commissioner Hughes to buy the MSA Evolution Camera that the Chief requested. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.

New Business

George Reilly thanked the Commissioners for the use of the hall.

Firefighter Giardina gave a grant update.

Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Souza and seconded by Commissioner Souza at 9:00 pm. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.
