July 3, 2013 Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners Agenda Meeting

The agenda meeting of the Colonia Board of Fire Commissioners took place at the Colonia Firehouse on July 3, 2013. The meeting was called to order by Board President Ray Hughes followed by a moment of silence for departed members.

Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Home News Tribune and the Asbury Park Press and at Town Hall.

Commissioners present: Ray Hughes, Bill Higgins, Sr., Bill Higgins, Jr., Jim Souza Eddie Sheehan

Buildings and Grounds, Commissioner Higgins, Sr.

The a/c had a few leaks which were taken care of.

The lights are left on and the air is blasting in the hall and doors are left open. Something has to be done.

While the a/c unit was being fixed they found two leaks in the roof. Next time there is a drill they will get two guys to go up on the roof and caulk it up.

Waiting on the guy from workers comp in regards to setting up another date for the audit.

Will speak about the radio room at the regular meeting.

July 19 is going to be the arbitration hearing. Commissioner Souza, Commissioner Hughes and Vinny are going.

Trucks and Equipment, Commissioner Sheehan

We had a problem this week with 12-35. It was gassed up with diesel fuel and it is a gas car. It cost $325.00 to repair the vehicle. An adjustment needs to be made with the nozzle at the pump to make it where it is controllable. It is the second time it has happened.

Belts were replaced on 12-2 that haven’t been replaced since they have had it. Mitch did work on it this week.

All the cars and the truck had been redone with wipers and oil filters. The cleaning is in process right now on the rigs and they are going to be doing the first aid rigs as well.

Everything is on order that we have ok’d to order.

I mentioned at the last meeting I was going to check into the sign for outside. Commissioner Souza and I touched base with the people who did Avenel’s sign and we are waiting to get together with them to have a meeting to show us what he can do for us.

In the radio room as you can see they are starting to take all the electric out. We have to make a decision if we are going to knock the wall down or not. The problem is they don’t want anyone in there to begin with so why make the room bigger. If we do knock the wall down we can put the mailboxes up on the other wall or just leave it the way it is and put the mailboxes through the wall.

In talking with the officer’s if they don’t want the guys in there than I think we should just leave the wall where it is and put the mailboxes in the wall.

New Business

Firefighter Stellmach

…………came in and is going to keep us on schedule with all of our training. He went through the equipment and found a lot of outdated stuff which could turn out to be liability issues.  

Motion to adjourn meeting was made by Commissioner Hughes and seconded by Commissioner Higgins, Jr. Motion passed by a unanimous vote.
